Former 49ers quarterback coach Rich Scangarello is expected to get hired by the Denver Broncos as the offensive coordinator.

Scangerello was initially denied for the interview with the Vic Fangio-led team but ultimately interviewed with them on Monday.

If the hire does, indeed, happen, Scangarello is coming to the table with a lot of experience, albeit mostly on the college level.

On the professional level, he served as a quality control coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2015 and as QC and assistant QB coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2009. But, the work that he did with  Nick Mullens and Jimmy Garoppolo is a testament of his ability to not only identify quarterbacks (Mullens) but also develop them in limited time for Kyle Shanahan’s system (Garoppolo).

The 49ers, in fact, are behaving in a way that suggests that they're prepared for Rich Scangarello to make his departure.

Scangarello's departure will mean that the 49ers will have an open quarterbacks' coach position, and there are no prospects to fill it as of yet.

Niners Nation feels that Scangarello will thrive under Vic Fangio, who is a “defensive-minded” coach.

“He could learn plenty serving as a de facto OC for Shanahan, but he likely would rather not have Shanahan looking over his shoulder à la Andy Reid and his several offensive coordinators (who have gone on to become head coaches).”

It goes without saying that there's nothing set in stone with Rich Scangarello as of yet, and last-minute decisions always pop up in the league. We'll keep you posted with any official updates.
