The Denver Broncos fired head coach Vic Fangio the day after they finished their season 7-10. Fangio held the job for three seasons, posting a 19-30 record. Broncos general manager George Paton has said he is looking for the right leader to steer the team.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Broncos might be interested in Doug Pederson to replace Fangio. Rapoport acknowledged that nothing is officially set up but that Pederson is a name to watch.

Broncos president John Elway and general manager George Paton would serve themselves well by looking at Pederson. He has a proven track record of success in a number of different roles in the NFL. Most recently, he led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship. Pederson joined only Tom Coughlin as the only two head coaches to beat Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl.

The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, 41-33. Pederson pulled out all the stops as they completed one of the bigger upsets in recent Super Bowl history.

Pederson could be a good fit for the Broncos for another reason: His strong ability to coach quarterbacks. He helped make Nick Foles look like an All-Pro, taking home MVP honors in Super Bowl LII.

Denver has been highly inconsistent at quarterback ever since Peyton Manning retired. Teddy Bridgewater has been steady, but injury-prone. Bridgewater sustained a concussion that did not look good on the field. Drew Lock is clearly not the long-term answer.

Whether the new head coach is working with Bridgewater and Lock, or someone else they bring in, having a quarterback whisperer as head coach isn't the worst thing.

Some other potential candidates for the Broncos include Dan Quinn, Nathaniel Hackett, Brian Callahan, Kellen Moore, and Todd Bowles.
