The 2018 NFL season was a disappointing one for the Denver Broncos. Fortunately, they can take solace in the fact that they found a new workhorse back for the offense moving forward in Phillip Lindsay.

Lindsay was undoubtedly one of the more pleasant surprises from the season. According to ESPN's Jeff Legwold, he is looking to take an even bigger step up next year.

“I'm proving myself again, every year is a new year, if you don't produce you don't play, you're not the starter,” Lindsay said. ” … Who's to say they don't go get another [running back]?”

It is encouraging to see that Lindsay is not resting on his merits just yet. He has earned every right to feel like he is the starter for Denver moving forward. However, it is clear he is not leaving anything up to chance.

Lindsay signed with his hometown Broncos after going undrafted following a solid career at Colorado. He was buried on the depth chart entering training camp. Fortunately, he was able to take full advantage of his limited opportunities and was eventually promoted to starter.

The rookie finished the season with 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns on 192 carries. He also became the first undrafted offensive rookie to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Lindsay's journey to stardom is even more of a reason why does not plan to let any other backs gain the edge on him. He knows full well how quickly the depth chart can change throughout the course of the season. The only way to assure his status as a starter is to stay healthy and keep improving with each season.
