The Denver Broncos were thought to be one of the many teams parting ways with their head coach on Monday. Vance Joseph has been on the hot seat for most of the season prompting many to believe John Elway and company would fire him after only one year at the helm.

According to Frank Schwab of Shutdown Corner, Joseph has now been deemed safe with the team agreeing to keep him on for at least one more season in Denver.

The speculation about Vance Joseph’s job security ended Monday morning. He’s staying as Denver Broncos coach. It seems like it could have gone either way.

Joseph was under intense scrutiny by the end of the season. The Broncos began the season 3-1, and finished it 5-11. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy was fired during the season. Other changes might be made, but general manager John Elway announced Joseph would return for a second season.

It has been a rocky season, to say the least for Joseph and the Broncos. The team came into the 2017 campaign with high hopes of competing for a playoff spot with one of the best defenses in the league led by Von Miller and an offense expected to come together with either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch under center.

Unfortunately for Denver, the quarterback position became a major issue for the Broncos as neither Siemian, Lynch, or the returning Brock Osweiler could get it done when given the opportunity to lead this team on offense.

Ultimately, the Broncos finished the season with 5-11 record and an uncertain future ahead. Although changes need to be made, Joseph has been given an opportunity to prove his worth with the team potentially targeting Kirk Cousins or possibly another perceived upgrade in NFL free agency.

Denver may go after another quarterback in the NFL Draft. The Broncos will be drafting fifth overall with a few intriguing prospects that could be available once they're on the clock.
