The Cleveland Browns are a team on the rise in the NFL with perhaps the most talented young core in the league led by quarterback Baker Mayfield and superstar wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr.

Although the sky is the limit for this revamped squad, Beckham can't shake the criticism from the fans of his former team. The New York Giants fans have been letting their former franchise player have it now that he's with the Browns, and that has prompted Mayfield to stick up for his new star teammate, via Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com.

“He's here to work, and he wants to be surrounded by people who love him and support him and allow him to be himself,” he says. “He's here to play in front of fans who actually care, who will actually show up to every game and pack the stadium and love him for who he is.”

Beckham made a name for himself in New York as arguably one of the best wideouts in the NFL. However, his time with the Giants was anything be smooth. There was constant trade speculation over the last couple of years along with Beckham securing a massive contract extension, and the fact New York couldn't find a way to win during his final stretch with the team.

Regardless of how things ended with New York, Beckham has an opportunity to start fresh on a team that could conceivably contend for a Super Bowl title next season. The Browns are as talented as any team in the NFL on both sides of the football right now. Beckham is expected to play a major role in Cleveland as one of Mayfield's top targets in the offense along with Jarvis Landry who is a close friend and former college teammate of the All-Pro wideout.
