It’s been over three seasons since New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer lost his starting spot for the Cleveland Browns in favor of Johnny Manziel. But even after all these years, Hoyer has continued to keep tabs on his old team and points out just how poorly they've fared since their decision to bench him.

“They’ve only won three games since then. So I think that explains everything. Is it three or four? Four,” Hoyer told Tony Grossi of ESPN.

Considering how downtrodden the Brown franchise has been for all these years, Hoyer had what should be considered an incredibly successful spell in Cleveland. He had a 10-6 record in 16 starts with the team, the only quarterback who’s had a winning record since the team returned in 1999.

But despite Hoyer’s success, the Browns took him out for Manziel, the team’s supposed quarterback of the future, with three games left in 2014. Hoyer eventually left for the Houston Texans after the season, while the Browns’ quarterback merry-go-round has continued to turn.

Cleveland has proceeded to go a mere 4-47 in the succeeding 51 games since Hoyer’s last start, a span that includes eight different quarterbacks. They finished with just the second 0-16 season in NFL history in 2017. Meanwhile, Hoyer is one win away from collecting a Super Bowl ring.

It should be noted that Hoyer’s starting quarterback career also didn’t work out quite as well after leaving Cleveland. He went a combined 6-14 with the Texans, Bears, and 49ers. But at least he has the numbers to prove how catastrophic Cleveland has been after letting him go, regardless of whether that was actually the main reason for their capitulation.
