After a record 37 positive COVID tests were returned by the NFL on Monday, the Cleveland Browns revealed that they had placed eight players on the COVID list on Tuesday. In an announcement by the team, the Browns reported eight new positive tests among players and subsequently placed the players on the reserve list.

This is obviously a major blow for the Browns, who have a short week of rest ahead of their Saturday matchup with the Raiders in Week 15. After managing to hold on for a win against the rival Ravens, a win on Saturday would go a long way towards the Browns reclaiming ground in the division, but this latest update doesn't bode well for the team.

According to Adam Schefter, the eight players the Browns placed on the COVID list were WR Jarvis Landry, TE Austin Hooper, OT Jedrick Wills, G Wyatt Teller, DE Takkarist McKinley, G Drew Forbes, WR JoJo Natson, and TE Ross Travis.

The biggest losses of the aforementioned group come on the offensive side of the ball, as Landry, Hooper, Wills, and Teller are all starters in Cleveland's offense. The loss of Wills and Teller will make Baker Mayfield's job even more difficult, something the Browns really can't afford based on the way the team has played of late. Mayfield has looked far from sturdy in 2021, and losing two of his key protectors only stands to make things worse, especially considering he'll also be without two of his favorite offensive weapons.

On the year, Landry has 38 receptions on 60 targets for 397 yards and one touchdown. Hooper has 33 receptions on 52 targets for 291 yards and three touchdowns. The pair have been far and away Mayfield's most-targeted options on offense, so their absence for the upcoming clash could be a critical loss.
