Seattle Seahawks free-agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is still seeking a contract, but the Cleveland Browns could prove to be an enticing destination for the former first-overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson shared on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Monday how the Browns are interested in inking Clowney to a long-term contract (via J.R. De Groote in Heavy.com).

“He’s still in a situation where he may need to sign a one-year, prove-it deal. But I think the Browns are interested in him longer term than that,” Robinson said on the Pat McAfee Show. “And if he’s going to sign a reduced deal, I’m telling you right now that’s a one-year deal. He’s not going to take some contract where someone is going to pay him $14 million per year.”

Clowney, 27, was traded by his original franchise Houston Texans on Sept. 1, 2019, to the Seahawks, joining an already-elite defensive unit, including Bobby Wagner, Shaquill Griffin, and Ziggy Ansah and leaving five years with the AFC South club behind. Only appearing in 13 games for the Seahawks, Clowney racked up 31 combined tackles, one interception, and three sacks in his single season with Seattle.

Clowney is among the highest-profile free agents still available in free agency, and the Browns have the most cap space available of any NFL franchise at the moment at $37 million. Robinson, however, suggests, although Cleveland may want to sign Clowney long term, the two sides could agree to a one-year deal to “prove” Clowney's impact on the gridiron.
