Fox Sports talk-show host Colin Cowherd has never been a big fan of Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, as the two have a longstanding feud that dates back to Mayfield's college days.

But even Cowherd thinks that Mayfield will be in the running for the NFL's Most Valuable Player award in 2019. The thing is, he doesn't exactly think it will be for his performance.

Cowherd notes that Mayfield has a “better story” than everyone else, which is why he said he would be “shocked” if Mayfield doesn't finish in the top two in MVP voting so long as the Browns have a winning record.

To be fair, Cowherd does make some good points in saying that the MVP award is not always necessarily based on which player is most valuable (as it should be), using Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook winning the award in the NBA as an example.

But then he kind of torpedoes his argument by listing Andrew Luck, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson as the three football players who have been the most valuable over the last five-to-10 years, somehow leaving Tom Brady off the list.

So while it may be true that a large number of votes may not know what “most valuable player” truly entails, it appears that Cowherd himself may be in that same boat.

Regardless, Mayfield is coming off of a terrific rookie campaign in which he set the record for most touchdowns thrown by a first-year quarterback in a single season with 27, and with an improved Browns club, he may very well have a shot at being in the running for MVP this coming season.
