The Cleveland Browns decided to take cornerback Denzel Ward with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was a move that some questioned, but the rookie has completely shut his critics down early on in his first season. Cleveland needed help in the secondary and Ward has already stepped up as one of the top playmaking defensive backs in the NFL.

According to a new release from Pro Football Focus on Twitter, Ward had the lowest passer rating against of any cornerback in the NFL during his Week 5 performance against the Baltimore Ravens.

Not only did he have the lowest passer rating against in the league for any cornerback, it wasn't even close. He absolutely dominated Joe Flacco and the Ravens, helping lead the Browns to a huge 12-9 win to improve to 2-2-1 on the season. That record is not bad for a team that didn't have any wins last season.

Ward has played extremely well throughout the first five games of the season. He has racked up 25 tackles to go along with a forced fumble, three interceptions, and six defended passes. Those numbers have him on pace to seriously compete for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Needless to say, drafting Ward with the fourth overall pick in the draft was well worth the investment for the Browns.

At just 21 years old, the former Ohio State star is making his name known. He may have been a nobody coming into this season, but teams are quickly beginning to learn that they have to tailor their game strategies to avoid him more often than not.

Expect to see the Browns' rookie cornerback continue improving as the season moves forward. That is a scary thought for opposing offenses, but Cleveland fans could not be more excited to finally have a cornerback capable of locking down any receiver he faces.
