Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has made it clear how enamored he is with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. It appears the feeling might be mutual.

Brees has long been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, he thinks Mayfield has the tools to surpass him:

“I think he can be a lot better than me. He's got all the tools.”

This is some heavy praise coming from Brees. Not only has he been an elite quarterback for more than a decade, but his resume screams first-ballot Hall of Famer and very well could be the most decorated passer in NFL history when it is all said and done. This means that Mayfield will have some pretty big shoes in the coming years.

There may be some truth to his comments. While Brees has flashed his legs at times, he has never been a mobile quarterback. Meanwhile, Mayfield's versatility gives Cleveland an added dynamic to work with. However, the rookie was not as pure of a passer as Brees was coming out of college. His accuracy is something he will need to improve on if he wants to surpass the 11-time Pro Bowler.

Fortunately, the rookie seems up to the task. Mayfield was adamant about wanting to emulate Brees' success in the NFL during his draft process. There were plenty of similarities given their small stature at the quarterback position. He even welcomed the prospect of serving as his potential successor in New Orleans. That said, the fact that Brees has such high expectations for him must be a pretty big deal for him.

Unfortunately, he will not get the chance to square off against his idol in Week 2. Although Mayfield managed to convince the Browns to select him with the No. 1 overall pick, they have made it clear that they will take their time with his development.
