The Cleveland Browns have done a solid job of retooling the roster for their potential turnaround in the 2018 NFL season. It appears running back Duke Johnson is hoping to be a part of it for years to come.

The former third-round pick has been discussing a potential contract extension with the team. According to ESPN's Pat McManamon, he is confident that a deal will get done in the near future:

Duke Johnson says that he and the Browns are in discussions about a contract extension, and he's “very optimistic” the two sides will come to an agreement.

It is encouraging to see that Johnson is optimistic about his chances at an extension this offseason. Cleveland has been busy refining their roster to pull them out of the rut they have been stuck in for some time now. Making Johnson a part of their long-term future would certainly be a bold move on the Browns' part considering all of the moves they made thus far.

Cleveland has made some notable additions to the backfield this offseason. They kicked off free agency by signing former San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde to a three-year deal. The Browns also took on of the more high-profile running backs in the 2018 NFL Draft in Nick Chubb. That said, Johnson will have a hard time competing for reps this offseason.

Fortunately, he has established himself as the team's go-to back in passing situations over the last three seasons. He has rushed for 1,085 yards and five touchdowns while hauling in 188 receptions for 1,741 yards and five touchdowns during that span.
