At long last, the Cleveland Browns finally have Josh Gordon back. The star wideout announced his return Saturday following his lengthy absence to focus on his health and well-being.

After missing all of training camp, Gordon now faces a race to be ready for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 9. But Browns head coach Hue Jackson has not completely closed the door on Gordon’s chances of playing against their division rivals.

“There's a chance,” coach Hue Jackson said per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “Obviously, we're just going to take it one step at a time. His focus is going to be on meetings and conditioning, and then we'll just kind of go from there. Hopefully, we can get him up and running by the first game.”

Gordon, who remains on the non-football injury list, is only able to attend meetings and conditioning sessions at this point. He still isn’t allowed to practice until he gets the green light from the medical team. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said “there's no timetable” for Gordon’s return to the field, but the Browns seem optimistic that it will be sooner rather than later.

The Browns still have two games remaining on their preseason schedule. Their next assignment against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday is likely much too soon for Gordon, but he could be able to feature in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions on Aug. 30.

If Gordon isn’t able to play against Pittsburgh, rookie Antonio Callaway, Rashad Higgins, and Jeff Janis will be called upon to support No. 1 option Jarvis Landry.
