Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt wants the organization to do whatever it takes to ensure backfield mate Nick Chubb stays put.

Hunt was asked how he felt about a possible Chubb extension. The Browns running back said he wants to see Chubb cash out:

“Pay that man. He’s a freak of nature,” Hunt said, via Zac Jackson of The Athletic. “He’s like a brother to me … hope we can play together for a long time.”

Browns general manager Andrew Berry has some big decisions to make in the coming months.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield could be in line for an extension, and his agent recently stated he believes a deal with the Browns gets done before the end of the summer. However, Cleveland might have more urgency in trying to extend Chubb.

Whereas Mayfield is under contract through 2022 thanks to his fifth-year option, Chubb's rookie contract expires at the end of 2021. That puts some pressure on the Browns to get things done sooner rather than later if they hope to keep Chubb from reaching the open market.

Chubb and Hunt formed one of the best 1-2 punches of any backfield in the NFL, if not the very best. Chubb rushed for over 1,000 yards despite missing four games due to injury, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He also had 12 rushing touchdowns. Hunt, meanwhile, rushed for over 840 yards and tallied 11 total touchdowns.

The Browns are a team on the rise in the AFC thanks in part to a balanced offensive philosophy. It seems likely they will look to keep Chubb in town and maintain their dynamic backfield.
