Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report recently published an article about one player from each position he expects to explode into stardom in 2019, and at quarterback, his pick is Baker Mayfield.

Gagnon runs through a few other potential candidates, such as Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and Jimmy Garoppolo, but felt that Mayfield was the “obvious” pick.

“In other words, Mayfield is the obvious choice here,” wrote Gagnon. “And while the bar might be set terrifyingly high for someone with 14 career starts under his belt, the stars do appear to be aligned for the 24-year-old as he enters his first full season as an NFL starter.”

Gagnon cites the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. into the Cleveland Browns offense as a reason for why Mayfield should blow up this coming season, as he also has the likes of Jarvis Landry and David Njoku as big-time weapons in the passing game.

Mayfield is coming off of a spectacular rookie campaign in which he threw for 3,725 yards, a rookie record 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions while completing 63.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 93.7.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Browns with the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Mayfield has helped lead Cleveland back to relevance, as the Browns went 7-8-1 this past season, marking their best finish since winning 10 games all the way back in 2007.

Now, many are expecting Cleveland to be a Super Bowl contender, which is a tall order for a quarterback in his second NFL season.
