After it was ruled that Deshaun Watson would not be charged for sexual assault stemming from nine accusations, the legal proceedings regarding him are now centered around his 22 civil cases of sexual misconduct. The decision kickstarted a massive pursuit of the Houston Texans quarterback and the Cleveland Browns ultimately landed him via trade.
However, another criminal complaint has arisen, according to Jenny Vrentas of The New York Times, after a grand jury in Harris County, Texas (the location of Houston) decided not to charge Watson on any of the nine criminal charges. Fox 8's Peggy Gallek, Ed Gallek and Talia Naquin report that another grand jury met Wednesday to hear the case's evidence.
The complainant for this 10th case is one of the 22 women who came forward with accusations against the Browns quarterback. The incident occurred in Brazoria County, which is south of Houston and outside Harris County's jurisdiction, in November of 2020. The police report claims that Watson ejaculated on the woman's hand and arm.
The new trial could change the Browns' course of action and could impact Watson's ability to play in the NFL. Criminal charges were the main obstacle that teams were looking at as they determined whether to pursue a trade for the three-time Pro Bowler. Although the trade has already occurred, any suspension Watson was due to receive could be increased if he is found guilty.
Cleveland traded five draft picks, including three first-round selections, to land Watson. The franchise released statements expressing their excitement of what Watson can bring to the team.
