The Cleveland Browns trading for Deshaun Watson drastically alters the course of their franchise. The ramifications of trading for the Pro Bowl quarterback with the backdrop of nearly two dozen accusations of sexual misconduct will forever loom over the organization. Already, the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center has begun an effort to help the community come to terms with the team's blockbuster move.

The Browns decided to send three first-round draft picks to the Houston Texans in order to bring in Watson. The trade became official as of this afternoon and Cleveland's head coach, general manager and owners released statements about the process that it took to acquire the 26-year-old.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said that he is confident in the work that the Browns front office did regarding the trade and is looking forward to coaching Watson.

GM Andrew Berry said that the intensive research he and the front office yielded enough information for them to be comfortable about trading for Watson. Berry adds that the star QB “understands the work needed to re-establish himself on and off the field in Cleveland.”

Finally, team owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam stated that they are “aware and empathetic to the highly personal sentiments expressed about the decision” by the Browns to trade for Watson. They said that Watson was very pleasant to them in their meetings.

The Browns went 8-9 last season behind Baker Mayfield, who will soon be traded to open up the starting spot for Watson.
