Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor was able to return to their preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering an injury to his left hand. As it turns out, Taylor went back even after dislocating of his left pinky finger, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Taylor ended up going 11-of-16 for 65 yards as he managed to finish the first half while playing with the injury. Rookie Baker Mayfield filled in for Taylor for two series in the first half and played most of the second half as the Browns won, 5-0.

While it seemed unwise for Taylor to even risk returning to a meaningless preseason game after suffering an injury, it bodes well that he still felt good enough to return despite suffering a dislocation.

Taylor also sent out a tweet earlier today to say that he is indeed doing just fine following his finger injury.

While Taylor’s injury sounds relatively minor, it will still likely keep him out of the team’s preseason finale against the Detroit Lions as a precaution. The Browns would be pretty foolish to risk aggravating Taylor’s injury even further by playing him on Thursday.

That should afford Mayfield more reps with the first team. The rookie was disappointed with his performance against the Eagles while filling in for Taylor, but should have the opportunity to redeem himself sooner than he expected.
