It was a rough Sunday for the Cleveland Browns, particularly to kicker Zane Gonzalez. Gonzalez had a horrible performance in Week 2’s 21-18 Browns loss to the New Orleans Saints on the road, as he went 0 of 2 on extra point chances and 2 of 4 on field goal attempts. Zane, who was later cut by Cleveland, sealed his fate with the team when he missed what could have been a game-tying field goal with only three seconds remaining on the game clock.

Gonzalez didn’t offer any excuse for his poor showing, but according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former Arizona State Sun Devils kicker was playing with a lower-body injury which could explain his inability to drain his kicks

Turns out Browns' kicker Zane Gonzalez, who is losing Cleveland's kicking job this week, has been kicking with a groin injury that requires an MRI today, per source. Browns could reach an injury settlement with him or put him on waivers, injured.

Injured or not, Zane Gonzalez is now on the unemployment line with the Browns now wasting much time to release him, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

#Browns second-year kicker Zane Gonzalez has been informed by the club they're releasing him after two missed FGs and 2 missed extra points in the 21-18 loss to the #Saints

Gonzalez’s job in Cleveland was already skating on thin ice entering the Saints game, as he also missed 43-yard field goal attempt with nine seconds left in overtime in last week’s tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
