Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson informed the Cleveland Browns that they're out of the running for his services as multiple teams try to trade for him. With Watson now out of the picture, the Browns could try to make amends with the disgruntled Baker Mayfield. However, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com says Mayfield will likely ask for a trade if Cleveland tries to keep him.

Cabot says there's a “low” chance Mayfield remains with the Browns as their starter for 2022. The quarterback is reportedly upset at the public courtship of Watson:

The fact that the Browns publicly courted Watson and supposedly offered the farm didn’t sit well with Mayfield and his camp, and they will likely seek greener pastures. Mayfield has some top choices for a new landing spot — with the Colts heading that list — and the Browns will try to help him end up happy to the extent they can, a league source said.

As Cabot notes, the Indianapolis Colts are a top option for Mayfield, while she also throws out Derek Carr and Matt Ryan as possible options for Cleveland. A Carr trade seems unlikely right now, but Ryan would become a much likelier option if Watson chooses Atlanta. Jimmy Garoppolo would also be an option.

As of right now, the rumors suggest it's between the Falcons and New Orleans Saints for Watson, with the Saints viewed as the favorite. It seems this Watson situation is coming to a head, and the same can be said for Mayfield and the Browns. Mayfield put out an emotional letter to Cleveland fans earlier this week that read like a good-bye statement amid all the Watson hubbub.
