Baker Mayfield has been showing plenty of potential in Kevin Stefanski's offense in his third season with the Cleveland Browns. Ahead of Sunday's Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared that the Browns and Mayfield are both focused on getting an extension done.

In his rookie season with the Browns in 2018, Mayfield showed why he was the No. 1 overall pick by throwing for 3,725 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions despite playing in 14 games as a rookie. But his second season with Freddie Kitchens where he had 3,827 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions led some to believe that Mayfield was trending in the wrong direction.

However, after moving on from Kitchens and replacing him with Stefanski, Mayfield is back to being the quarterback he was in his rookie season. The former Heisman Trophy winner recorded 3,563 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a career-best eight interceptions in 2020.

Above all, the Browns went 11-5 in the regular season, clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2002. And after shocking the world by taking down the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, Mayfield led Cleveland to their first playoff victory since 1994.

Rapoport made it clear that the Browns and Mayfield aren't in a rush to get an extension done with Mayfield. Though, both sides could begin speaking about a new contract as soon as this offseason.

If Mayfield can put together another stellar performance against the reigning Super Bowl champions on Sunday, he could earn himself some more money on his impending contract extension with the Browns.
