On Thursday night, the Boston Bruins got a big win over the Washington Capitals, 4-3. However, the game may prove to be a pyrrhic victory for the Bruins, as Brad Marchand went down with an upper body injury.

During the 2nd period, Marchand was playing the puck in the corner. Caps right winger Garnet Hathaway came flying in and crushed Marchand from behind into the boards. Marchand left the game and did not return. Later in the game, following a Bruins goal, you can clearly see Marchand was in a lot of pain.

Marchand is seen wincing and was unable to even lift his arms to celebrate the team’s goal. After the game, Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy took exception to the hit that left his star injured, as ESPN noted.

“The [Marchand] one I didn’t like at all. … Hit a guy in the numbers in a vulnerable spot… I’ve seen that from that player in the past, so I didn’t like that one at all. The league may or may not look at it. When it comes to [Marchand], sometimes they kind of move on.

Cassidy’s comment about the league moving on from hits on the Bruins’ Marchand, he is probably referring to the reputation Marchand himself has earned.

In 2020, 392 NHL players were asked who the dirtiest player in the league was. 29 percent of the vote said the Boston winger. He has been suspended for elbowing, slew-footing, clipping and tripping. He was caught on camera licking one opponent and biting another.
