Bruce Arians, the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has experienced multiple health issues in recent years. Despite his health concerns, Arians appears to be adamantly against coaching from a booth during the 2020 season.

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Bruce Arians shared that he'll be on the sideline with his team in the upcoming season:

“No. There’s no chance of me coaching from a box. Once we get a [face] shield that I like, I’ll have my mask and shield on.”

The veteran coach, who turns 68 years old in October, has experienced three different forms of cancer in his lifetime. Nevertheless, Bruce Arians is confident in the protocols that the league has laid out for coaches and players amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m very comfortable with our protocols now that I’ve gotten used to the protocols,” Arians said. “We had a week of staff meetings where we went through the protocols, how to teach with a mask on and all of the things that we are going to do differently. I’m very, very comfortable with it. As far as on the field, I’ll maintain a mask and probably a shield just for personal use, and coach like I’ve always coached.”

Instead of coaching from a booth, similar to certain players, Bruce Arians will choose to wear a face shield that is recommended by the NFL. J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans is among the players that didn't seem to be a fan of the face shields that the league could have players wear this season.

Even though it would be understandable for Bruce Arians to coach from an isolated area, he's choosing to be alongside his players in 2020.
