Bruce Arians is of the firm belief that Tom Brady's legendary career really is over. If the seven-time Super Bowl champion has a change of heart, though, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would certainly be ready to welcome him back.

Meeting with reporters on Tuesday at the NFL combine, Arians expressed doubt on the possibility of Brady ending his retirement, but stressed the “door is always open” for him to return to the Buccaneers.

Brady sent football into a tizzy less than a week after first announcing he was finally hanging it up, telling NFL.com's Grant Gordon that “you never say never” regarding a potential comeback.

Arians isn't expecting the 45-year-old to actually take the field again, though, instead chalking Brady's public waffling up to a desire for his name to remain in the headlines.

“He slammed [the door] shut when I talked to him,” Arians said of Brady, per Chris Mason of MassLive.com. “I think like a lot of these guys, he likes to have his name out there.”

Brady officially announced his retirement on February 1st, confirming days of speculation about his career being finished. He hangs up his cleats as the most accomplished player in NFL history, winning seven Vince Lombardi trophies and finishing as the league's all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and completions.

Though there have been calls for Tampa Bay to chase a star quarterback via trade or free agency, Arians said on Tuesday that he'd be comfortable entering next season with 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask or veteran backup Blaine Gabbert as Brady's replacement under center.
