The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some major questions to address this offseason. Among them is the uncertain future of outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Barrett's future as he gets set to test the waters of free agency. According to Scott Smith of the team's official website, he is optimistic that he will be able to get a deal done to remain in Tampa Bay.

“I don’t know where it’s going to end up at but I’m confident that I’m going to be where I should be, which I think is Tampa,” he said.

Barrett's comments are certainly an encouraging sign that he will be part of the Bucs' long-term plans. Of course, it remains to be seen if both teams can come to terms on a price tag.

Tampa Bay signed Barrett to a one-year prove-it deal last offseason following his tenure with the Denver Broncos to start his career. It is safe to say that he managed to make the most of his new opportunity by finishing the 2019 NFL season with a league leading 19.5 sacks, 58 tackles, six forced fumbles, two pass deflections, and one interception.

Barrett has managed to spark quite the resurgence in his career by going from an undrafted free agent to a Pro Bowler with the Buccaneers. Even head coach Bruce Arians acknowledged toward the end of the year that they would need to secure him for the long haul. The onus will ultimately fall on the front office to ensure that a deal gets done.
