News broke Saturday afternoon that legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady retired from the NFL. According to senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, this was as sudden for the public as it was for his head coach and teammates.

Breer tweeted that he exchanged text messages with Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians Saturday afternoon. When Breer asked him if Brady told the Buccaneers about his plans for the future, Arians reportedly replied, “No, he hasn't.”

There is currently a lot of confusion and speculation surrounding the GOAT's retirement, since he hasn't officially announced the news himself.

However, it is odd that Brady might have retired unbeknownst to his current teammates and head coach. Brady led the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl win since 2003, as well as another playoff run this season.

Although the Buccaneers weren't able to advance past the NFC Divisional Round against the Los Angeles Rams, it doesn't discredit the season they had this year, along with the team's Super Bowl win just last season.

But Brady's career in Tampa Bay and the extra ring was just the icing on the cake. He won six Super Bowl Championships as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots, and will always be known as the GOAT for his unbelievable performance throughout 22 seasons in the league.
