Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t letting any labels distract him from focusing on his ultimate goal: winning.

In an interview with Jarrel Harris of Sports Illustrated, Antetokounmpo was asked what it means to him that people are now saying that he is the best player in the East. Below was the 6-foot-11 forward’s answer.

“There is going to be a lot of people out there that is going to say I am the best in the East and there is going to be some that says that I am not the best in the East, so my mindset is to keep working hard, focus on my game and to continue making my team better. We are trying to get as many wins as possible.”

With LeBron James moving out West to the Los Angeles Angeles Lakers, The Greek Freak is certainly the top candidate to be dubbed as the new king of the Eastern Conference.

Antetokounmpo was a beast last season as he averaged career-bests in points per game with 26.9 and rebounds per game with 10. He also added 4.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks to boot. The Greek Freak did the majority of his damage last season from the inside, as 57.7 percent of his shots came from within 8 feet.

The Bucks headed into the 2017-18 season with a lot of hype, primarily because of the emergence of their Greek superstar, who had won Most Improved Player the previous season.

However, they did not live up to expectations as they finished the regular season with a record of 44-38, good for just seventh in the East. They also lost in the first round of the playoffs in seven games to a depleted Boston Celtics squad that was missing Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

With a focused and motivated Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the charge, and with a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer at the helm, the Bucks look to take their place among the elites in the East. They open their 2018-19 campaign at Charlotte on October 17.
