Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo recently toured Greece to parade the NBA championship trophy in different cities. But now, he's witnessed an even more significant milestone in his home country.

Giannis was in Greece to personally see her mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo, finally get awarded Greek citizenship. Giannis' brother, Alex Antetokounmpo, was also bestowed the same right. The special ceremony was held at the official residence of Greece Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Giannis, who was born in Athens, wouldn't miss the occasion for the world and had a heartfelt reaction afterward (via Associated Press).

“We always felt Greek, but now we have an official stamp and we are happy. Alex and my mom are Greek citizens now.”

Giannis' parents are both immigrants from Nigeria. This made finding a job in Greece difficult. To help their family survive, Giannis and his brothers resorted to selling fake watches, sunglasses, and other items on the street. The innate athleticism of the Bucks forward, however, forever changed their fortunes.

Giannis was granted Greek citizenship in 2013, which allowed him to go to the United States and start his NBA journey. His mother has visited him several times, including when he received his two MVP trophies and other milestones in his colorful career.

The Greek Freak has never forgotten where he's from, that's why Greece will always be his home. Witnessing his mother achieve a longtime dream should only make it even more special.

With the latest blessing to their family, Giannis Anteotkounmpo might even get more inspired in the upcoming season and lead the Bucks to a second straight title.
