On Sunday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneers star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy left the team's 24-21 loss to the Detroit Lions with what is believed to be a serious arm injury.

According to Roy Cummings of Florida Football Insiders, it is reported that McCoy thinks he tore his biceps muscle early in the loss and has suffered a similar injury twice before in his career.

“It actually happened on the first play of the game,” McCoy said. “Just kept playing through the pain but then it got to a point where I just couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore. I didn’t want to be out there playing with one arm. You’re not helping your team at that point. You're being selfish. If I would have kept playing I would have hurt my team.”

If the injury is confirmed by the team this week, the five-time Pro Bowler would likely miss the rest of the 2017-18 season for a Bucs squad that has limped to a 4-9 record.

“I just couldn’t deal with it anymore,” McCoy said of the injury. “When you’re out there and you’re trying to push through for your team but you can’t do certain things, then you’re hurting your team, you’re not helping them.’’

On the year, McCoy has started each of Tampa Bay's 13 games so far and has racked up 40 tackles as well as five quarterback sacks. As a defensive unit, this is a crushing blow for a Bucs team that is already dead last in the NFL with just 17 sacks this season.
