Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic have one of, if not the most complicated teammate relationship in the NBA at the moment. Mirotic, who is slowly working his way back from the injury he suffered quite literally at the hands of Portis, has reportedly still not spoken to his teammate after their unfortunate incident in which Portis punched him in the face.

However, the two did make some sort of interaction during Bulls’ game against the Phoenix Suns as Mirotic reciprocated Portis’ fist bump — somewhat ironic given their situation as he was heading to the bench.

Obviously, a mere fist bump is still a long way toward the two engaging in a full-blown reconciliation. However, the small gesture is still a significant and meaningful step in the right direction given what they’ve been through over the past few weeks.

As Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg noted, Mirotic and Portis will be forced to make some sort of communication and interaction once Mirotic gets back to playing. Perhaps he was also referring to fist bumps, which are a form of non-verbal communication.

Hopefully, though, this truly is the start of the two patching things up and putting what is a truly unfortunate situation behind them.
