Four-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan is headed to the Chicago Bulls on a huge three-year deal worth $85 million.

With his move, the 31-year-old has also now parted ways with the San Antonio Spurs after three seasons under head coach Gregg Popovich. DeRozan will instantly add a ton of firepower to the Bulls offense, which also added Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball as free agency kicked off.

This isn't the first time that DeRozan has been part of major headlines. In 2018, the Compton native was at the forefront of a controversial move that had him switch places with two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard as the two superstars traded teams. Unfortunately, things turned out better for Leonard as Kawhi helped lead the Raptors to an incredible championship run in 2019. Now, he is headed to the Bulls.

Despite the lack of championship hardware, DeRozan has made a name for himself as one of the most reliable scorers in the league, especially from the mid-range. In the past eight seasons, the USC alum has averaged north of 20 points per game with only 1.7 three-point attempts per outing.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, it will be part of a sign-and-trade with the San Antonio Spurs and Thad Young and multiple picks going from the Bulls.

The DeRozan acquisition should be nothing but big for the Bulls franchise that clearly needs some offensive help. DeRozan has proven that he can be a plug-and-play type of superstar that can instantly be effective and thrive. Undoubtedly, the Bulls now become a legitimate playoff contender with a guy like DeRozan knocking down big shots down the stretch.
