Otto Porter Jr. was supposed to become an integral part of the Chicago Bulls rotation at the start of the season. He did get off to a hot start, but his injury kept him out for a long time, eventually reducing his minutes upon his return.

Any player would be bewildered if he finds his minutes to be shorter than what was advertised at the start of the season. However, the forward out of Georgetown was more than happy to play the minutes that he was assigned. He understands that the team is slowly easing him in to play his regular minutes. Forcing himself to play almost 30 minutes a game when he's still trying to get back into shape is the wrong way of approaching things.

He shared with K.C. Johnson of NBS Sports Chicago the approach the Bulls' coaching team has been with him at this point of the season. He reveals that it's a slow return to pro play, something Porter definitely appreciated.

“We talked to the trainers about what’s the best way to bring me back without sitting me down for a long time. Just try to keep me involved in the game,” Porter said. “Everything was planned how it was supposed to be planned. Right now, I know that I need this because I’m trying to work my way back. I’m not trying to jump the gun and just go full all out. This is all planned for my comeback.”

Since his return in March, Porter played an average of 18 minutes a game. He's averaging 9.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in his first three games back. While these numbers are low compared to his career averages, it's important to consider that he's still trying to get the rust off.

Porter should eventually climb back to playing about 30 minutes a night once he gets his playing form back. He's a key component of the Bulls rotation and will be able to perform for his team soon.
