Chicago Bulls rookie big man Wendell Carter Jr. got the pin removed from his surgically repaired left thumb on Friday, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

Carter Jr. underwent surgery on his left thumb after he suffered ligament damage. The 19-year-old isn't expected to play again this season for the Bulls.

Before he got hurt, Wendell Carter Jr. was having a sound rookie season for Chicago. The seventh overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Duke University was averaging 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Carter Jr. registered 58 blocks as well. The hope within the Bulls organization is that their prized youngster will have a full offseason to get healthy so he can be 100 percent for the start of the 2019-20 campaign. Carter Jr., shooting guard Zach LaVine, stretch forward Lauri Markkanen and small forward Otto Porter Jr. are the four core players Chicago wants to build around moving forward.

The Bulls will finish the year with one of the worth records in the NBA. They entered Saturday at 15-44, 13th place in the competitive Eastern Conference. Carter Jr. played and started in 44 games for the team this season.
