Chicago Bulls starting shooting guard Zach LaVine is doubtful to play against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

Zach LaVine suffered an ankle injury on Thursday versus the Orlando Magic at the end of the game. The high-flyer told reporters in the postgame locker room he felt a pop and will undergo an MRI. LaVine played 40 minutes and finished with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field in the 97-91 loss to the Magic.

In 28 games this season for the Bulls, Zach LaVine is averaging 23.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 86.9 percent from the free-throw line. Chicago is 6-23 on the year, 15th place in the Eastern Conference.

In a rebuild season, if Zach LaVine isn't 100 percent, there is absolutely no reason for Chicago to play him. The 23-year-old is one of the franchise cornerstones and risking his long-term health shouldn't be given a thought by the front office and coaching staff in Chicago.

We will likely know more about Zach Lavine's status moving forward once the MRI results are released by the team. The Bulls have to hope the injury isn't a serious one.
