The Chicago Bulls will have both their starting guards in Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball staying home as the team heads for a three-game road trip.

The fact that they'll both be missing those games isn't a surprise. Both players, however, seem to be heading in different directions when it comes to their recovery.

According to Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, All-Star Zach LaVine has “responded well” since the first quarter knee scare he had against the Golden State Warriors last week. The scoring guard has been shooting free throws and has been able to do weight training while his knee progresses.

“He hasn't done any running, jumping, anything like that. He's been able to shoot free throws, he's been able to some strength training and those kinds of things,” Donovan said of LaVine. “He has responded well. I don't have a return date for him at this point, but certainly he feels a lot better today than he did coming out of Golden State.”

Lonzo Ball, on the other hand, has not had as smooth of a recovery process. The Bulls have changed Ball's official injury designation from left knee “soreness” to “bone contusion” and are reportedly switching up their treatment after his knee didn't progress much from initial therapy.

“I think the biggest thing right now is what are the steps that we can do to get him back and get him healthy,” the Bulls coach said on Lonzo Ball. “I haven't gotten into any detail with them (doctors) about that other than, hey, we'll try this treatment, we'll try this therapy, see how it goes, and then whatever the next step is that will be. But I haven't been told what any next steps are gonna be.”

The good news is that surgery doesn't seem to be in the cards as the Bulls try to get Lonzo Ball back healthy.
