After a rather quick exit from the playoffs, Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard C.J. McCollum is continuing his friendly pursuit of soon-to-be free agent swingman Paul George, who has been rumored to want out of Indiana after underachieving for several seasons.

The Lehigh standout previously mentioned on Twitter that he would like George to join him in Portland after responding to a fan during a flight delay, shortly after the Blazers were eliminated from playoff contention.

“Paul George is the homie,” McCollum told Ryne Nelson of SLAM Magazine. “He’s with Nike. I’ve had some discussions with him about the season, and what it’s like to go from… He was behind Danny Granger for a while. [Granger] gets hurt, and then he comes up and becomes a star and kinda takes over.”

“So just talking to him about his mindset. He would look good in red and black that’s all.”

Already one of the most explosive backcourts with two 20-plus-point scorers, the addition of George would make a relatively undersized lineup into a genuine 1-2-3 punch that could challenge the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors for a spot in the Western Conference's elite.

“He gives you that star power,” added McCollum. “You’re in the Western Conference. Obviously there’s a lot of very good teams. A lot of teams that are deep. A lot of teams that have three, four horsemen. Some teams have five. And you have to be able to match them blow for blow.”

“It takes a lot more than one good player, two good players, three good players. You need to have a collective unit. Obviously, Paul George would help any team in the NBA.”

The Blazers gave the Warriors their proverbial best punch and Golden State took it right on the chin and kept moving forward unfazed, despite facing key injuries during the series for two straight seasons.

The addition of George would surely make Portland one of the scariest offenses in the league, as well as greatly improving defense at the wing spot and benefitting from George's 6-foot-9 frame, long arms and excellent defensive execution. Though it remains to be seen if George would choose the Blazers over his beloved Los Angeles Lakers when it comes time to leave the nest.
