Both Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Tyson Fury enjoyed a tremendous run this year. However, modern boxing can only have one poster boy.

Since his majority decision win over Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin in 2018, Canelo Alvarez went on to win seven consecutive fights in three weight classes–middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight respectively.

More importantly, Canelo will finish the year with flying colors as his recent sensational victory over Caleb Plant saw him becoming the first boxer to unify all four recognized world titles in the 168-pound division. In the process, he also became the first Mexican fighter to ever become an undisputed champion and the sixth undisputed champion in the four-belt era.

This has been the reason many have regarded Canelo as the pound-for-pound king. In fact, even the world's only eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao was convinced that “boxing in great hands” with Canelo leading the way.

As it stands, Canelo seems to have nothing to prove in his career. However, there are still a few matches fans will be delighted to see–a third fight against his ultimate nemesis Golovkin and a super middleweight bout against unbeaten WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

Much like Canelo, Tyson Fury is also presenting a strong case of becoming the face of boxing. Apart from being a crowd favorite, Fury has proven his cynics that he is no joke, having put an end to his rivalry with Deontay Wilder with a stunning KO win in their hyped trilogy match.

Fury now holds the WBC heavyweight title and could be on course to steal the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles from Oleksandr Usyk. However, this could only be possible if “The Gypsy King” decides to step inside the ring once again.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Fury said of his future after beating Wilder via The Telegraph. “I’ve got one fight left on my contract with Top Rank and ESPN and we’ll see what that is.”

“But I’m not thinking about boxing right now,” he confessed. “I don’t know how many fights I’ve got left, I don’t know if I need to fight anymore. I don’t know what the future holds.”
