The 2018 NFL Draft is just one week away from beginning and the Arizona Cardinals currently have the No. 15 overall pick in the first round. What will Cardinals general manager Steve Keim and new head coach Steve Wilks end up doing with that pick? Many mock drafts have them taking a quarterback in the first round in order to build for the future.

However, Keim realizes that there are a lot more factors to consider about trading up, such as the possible cost it could put on the franchise if the pick doesn't pan out.

“Are you willing to put the franchise in a position to be set back for years if you’re not right?” Keim said, per Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. “I mean, it can be crippling for us if we traded the next couple drafts to go get a player that has never taken an [NFL] snap and doesn’t have success.”

Arizona could definitely add their quarterback of the future in the early rounds, which is something the Cardinals have not done recently.

Keim, who has stated in the past that one of his greatest regrets as Cardinals GM is passing up on current Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson, admits that Arizona should have probably taken a quarterback in the higher rounds over the last few drafts.

“I think about the things that I’ve done wrong more so than I think about the things that have gone well,” Keim said. “To me, when you’re a competitor, that’s how you grow and get better in this business, is to be critical of yourself.”

Over the offseason, Arizona added two veteran quarterbacks in Sam Bradford of the Minnesota Vikings to be the starter and Mike Glennon of the Chicago to be the backup.
