Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, entering his first season as an NFL head coach, has sealed lips regarding how he plans on handling rookie quarterback Kyle Murray and fifth-year running back David Johnson's respective preseason game snaps.

Murray, 21, was selected by the Cardinals with the first overall pick in April's NFL Draft. The 5-foot-10 Oklahoma product chose to enter the NFL draft over playing baseball with the Oakland Athletics.

“I think the goal is for us to get [Murray] out of the game with him feeling good about what went on out there. And so whatever that takes, if it’s three plays, it’ll be three plays. If it’s 10-12 plays, it’ll be 12.

“We’ll just figure that out as the game’s going and how he feels and go from there. The main objective is to get good work, have him feel comfortable and feel good about the result.”

Starting NFL QB's rarely play long stretches in preseason games—and the Cards' rookie shot caller looks to be playing in limited sequences, too. Arizona officially kicks off its preseason with an August 8th tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers. They'll round out their preseason slate with a schedule featuring matchups with the Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, and Denver Broncos.

The Heisman Trophy winning QB Murray will get his first looks at opposing NFL defenses with the Thursday bout against the Chargers, but the question is how long to keep the Cards' prized, first-round talent in the game. Clearly staying in will allow Murray to make mistakes learn on the fly well ahead of his regular season debut in September, but leaving him in too long could lead to injury.
