We've just received the first relevant update on the condition of Arizona Cardinals star Budda Baker after he was carted off the field on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams due to a head injury.
Cardinals SVP for Media Relations Mark Dalton has provided a critical update on Baker, who was rushed to the hospital after a scary collision with Rams running back Cam Akers:
Baker had to be carted off the field after taking a vicious hit to the head during the third quarter of Monday's contest. The Cardinals safety went stiff as soon as he hit the ground.
Akers himself was visibly upset as the Cardinals' medical staff attended to Baker. He did celebrate after the play and appeared to have signaled to Baker while the latter was on the ground, but at that point, it seemed like Akers was not aware of the gravity of the situation. Akers appeared to have quickly regretted his actions once he realized that Baker had sustained a serious injury.
The Rams emerged with a victory on Monday, 34-11, as they booked their spot in the next round against Tom Brady and the defending champs Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For his part, Budda Baker will undergo more tests in the coming hours/days, and we will be sure to pass along any new information as it comes.
