The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to a four-year, $36 million contract with linebacker Jordan Hicks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The deal features $20 million in guaranteed money.

Hicks spent the 2018 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles, playing in 12 games (he missed four contests due to a calf injury) and registering 91 tackles, three sacks, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Texas, was originally selected by the Eagles in the third round (84th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He played in just eight games during his rookie campaign due to a torn pectoral muscle, but when he was on the field, he was impressive, totaling 49 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

Then, the following year, Hicks started all 16 games, finishing with 86 tackles, a sack, five picks, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.

The Colorado Springs native then participated in just seven contests in 2017 before rupturing his Achilles tendon. Prior to the injury, Hicks had logged 28 stops and a fumble recovery.

The Cardinals are coming off of a season in which they won just three games, good for the worst mark in the NFL. Given the fact that Arizona ranked 20th in total defense and 26th in points allowed this past season, working on the defense is probably a good idea, and a healthy Hicks is certainly a fine addition.

Arizona will also have the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft next month.
