The Arizona Cardinals are still looking to finalize a new contract for quarterback Kyler Murray, and with training camp looming, head coach Kliff Kingsbury is hoping the two sides can come to an agreement soon. Via Darren Urban, Kingsbury admitted that he's “praying” a new Murray deal can be finalized before training camp, though he admitted it still remains unclear when the deal will be finalized.

Murray has been angling for a new contract throughout the offseason. Some controversy was stirred up when he wiped his social media accounts of anything Cardinals-related, prompting rumors that he was unhappy with his current situation.

The former No. 1 pick is still playing under his rookie contract, which will expire after the 2023 season, so it stands to reason that he's seeking a long-term deal in order to get some stability.

Kingsbury admitted he's “selfishly” hoping for a Murray deal to get completed sooner than later in order to ensure the star quarterback is at training camp from the get-go. Should Murray still be in a contract dispute with the team, there's a significant chance he'd consider holding out from training camp in order to force the team's hand. In 2022, Murray is due just $965,000 in base salary, though he'll make a total of $5.5 million.

The Cardinals picked up Murray's fifth-year option, meaning he's due to make $29.7 million in 2023 before hitting free agency in 2024. Of course, the Cardinals are hoping to get a deal done before free agency becomes a real concern, so the two sides will certainly be hard at work at the negotiation tables ahead of training camp, which gets underway in late July.

Last season, Murray started 14 games for the Cardinals, registering a 9-5 record. He threw for 24 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions while completing 69.2% of his pass attempts. He also rushed 88 times for 423 yards and five touchdowns.
