Several days ago, CD Projekt Red, creators behind the Witcher series, has recently announced that they will be starting a new chapter within the Witcher series. While the new title has not been given a proper title or series number, many fans and gaming new outlets have aptly titled the new entry as “Witcher 4”.
This new entry, according to the blog post over at the official CD Projekt Red homepage, states that it will not be developed using REDEngine, CD Projekt Red's in-house game engine which was used for several titles in the past including Cyberpunk 2077, will instead be put aside in favor of Epic Game's Unreal Engine 5. In their official press release, Pawel Zawodny states that the switch to Unreal Engine 5 is part of a multi-year strategic partnership and that the switch to this new engine will improve development efficiency.
Robert Malinowski, a global communication director for CD Projekt Red goes on to state with Eurogamer that the medallion shown in the teaser image above it is shaped in the form of a lynx and that it signifies that a new witcher guild will be introduced into the series. Not only is the lynx school new to the game series but completely new to the Witcher lore as well, as there has been no mention of this particular school within the storybooks or even within fanfiction.
Many fans have speculated that Ciri may become the lead protagonist in this new entry, as she previously belongs to the witcher school of the cat. WIth the lynx being part of the feline family, this fan theory does have some obvious ground to it as Ciri may have graduated to different schools, but nothing has been confirmed as of now.
Currently, there is no time or release window for this new entry in the Witcher series.
