Over the past two seasons, the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers have been the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. That said, their front offices have been working hard in bringing in more talent to their roster in order to gain an advantage against their rivals.

When asked if the moves they did this summer were influenced by the ones made by the Cavs last season, Celtics president Danny Ainge denied it, via The Dan Patrick Show. He then added that they are just trying to form the best team possible, but do not react to what any moves other teams have made.

“It doesn’t matter. We have our own problems and our own challenges and trying to put players together that can win and compete in the league today is very difficult.

“Obviously we’re competing to try to get the same players that everybody wants in the league, but other than that, we’re not reacting to things that they’re doing right now.”

The C’s have had a successful offseason, following the much talked-about trade they completed with the Philadelphia 76ers for the top overall pick in the draft. They ended up with the third overall selection, which they used to take Jayson Tatum. They were also able to lure in Gordon Hayward, and added Marcus Morris in exchange for Avery Bradley, to cap off their busy summer.

It remains to be seen if these moves will be enough to topple the defending Eastern Conference champions. However, with the lack of deals the Cavs have made to further improve their lineup, and the uncertainty surrounding Kyrie Irving’s future in Northeast Ohio, the Celtics have definitely increased their chances of winning.

Danny Ainge and company have certainly done their part, and it’s now up to the coaching staff on how they’ll put their system in place, and prepare their players for next season where they will look to advance to the NBA Finals.
