With the 33rd pick of the 2019 Draft, the Boston Celtics selected point guard Carsen Edwards out of Purdue. Weeks later, Edwards has impressed in the Summer League and has drawn some compliments from head coach Brad Stevens:

This is high praise from Stevens. It's not unusual to see players selected in the second round struggle to crack an NBA rotation. Clearly, Stevens believes this won't be an issue for Edwards.

The 6-foot-1 Edwards had a few great games during his lengthy college career. Most notably, he scored 42 points against Virginia in the Elite Eight. He made ten 3-pointers during the said contest, most of which came at an incredibly high degree of difficulty.

Additionally, Edwards broke the NCAA tournament 3-point record by hitting 28 threes, even though his team was eliminated in four games.

Before this remarkable run, Edwards wasn't on many draft boards. The amazing display led to the Celtics taking him fairly high, and it seems like the gamble might pay off.

Obviously, new Celtics star Kemba Walker will be starting at the one spot for Boston. However, Edwards will have the opportunity to fight for backup minutes with Brad Wanamaker and fellow rookie Tremont Waters.

If the clutch guard plays anywhere near the level he did in the tournament, the Celtics will rejoice that they got him with a second round pick. Hopefully, Edwards can retain some of the tourney magic and carve himself out a solid NBA career.
