In a bit of good news for the Boston Celtics after their NBA Finals heartbreak, no one in the team will need surgery, including center Robert Williams III.

Team president Brad Stevens shared the update on Tuesday, noting that “those guys just need some rest.”

To recall, Williams dealt with a bothersome left knee injury during the playoffs. He underwent surgery for a torn meniscus last March and returned midway through the first round of the postseason. However, he was often tagged as questionable before games as the Celtics had to assess his condition.

Come the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, it became more of a concern, especially since he had his knee drained a lot during the East Finals. He was far from 100 percent, but he fought through it since he knew Boston needed him against the Dubs.

Fortunately according to Stevens, Williams just “needs to take some time” to let the injury “completely settle down.” He also emphasized that the big man didn't take any risk by playing during the Finals, per Jay King of The Athletic.

Hopefully, Robert Williams III's injury is truly not severe and he wouldn't need surgery. He is a crucial part of Boston's top-rated defense, and after a rather brilliant campaign, he is well poised to take another jump in 2022-23.

Celtics fans are certainly ecstatic to see that leap he'll take, but any setback will surely hinder his development. For now, Boston and its supporters can only let him rest until he returns when he feels better and more comfortable.
