Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics has been grabbing headlines of late after earlier reports emerged that he is in line for a max extension from the C's. A lot of guys around the NBA is rooting for the 22-year-old, and this includes Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum.

For starters, McCollum laughed off how reports are saying that Tatum's max extension remains to be of the “most likely” category. In this mind of the Portland two-guard, Boston should not be thinking twice about any of this at all.

McCollum is obviously a believer of Jayson Tatum's talent and his potential to become Boston's cornerstone superstar of the future. The same seems to hold true for Utah's Donovan Mitchell, who has already foreseen how Tatum will be treating him for dinner once that big-money deal is signed.

For what it's worth, Mitchell himself is due for a big pay day from the Jazz. The All-Star swingman is still on his rookie scale deal, and likewise seems likely to put pen to paper on a max deal in the not so distant future.

As for Tatum, he is under contract with the Celtics until the end of the 2020-21 season. This means that Boston will likely offer Tatum a deal prior to the start of next season, if not earlier. As McCollum implied above, now is not the time for the C's to try and be coy with their pursuit of Tatum, as the risk is just too substantial.
