It looks like Kemba Walker recruited Enes Kanter to the Boston Celtics this summer.

Kanter, who signed a two-year, $9.7 million deal with the Celtics, says he got a phone call from Walker on general manager Danny Ainge's phone which sealed the deal for him to join Boston.

“One of the reasons I picked Boston was because of Kemba Walker,” Kanter told Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News. “He called me during free agency on Danny Ainge’s phone. He said, ‘Hey, how we doing, big man?’ That was special to me.”

Enes Kanter split time last season with the New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 13.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 67 games while shooting 54.9 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc and 78.7 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Kanter put up 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds. The Celtics lost All-Star center Al Horford to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency and traded Aron Baynes to the Phoenix Suns. Kanter will have a big role with the Celtics in 2019-20.

Boston, though, is going to go as far as Kemba Walker can take them. The All-Star guard, who has career averages of 19.8 points and 5.5 assists, is looking forward to taking the Celtics places where Kyrie Irving couldn't.
