‘Tis the season for giving, and Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving showed he was full of holiday cheer when he gave a homeless man $240 in the spirit of giving.

Today, he told Kyle Draper of NBC Sports why he chose to perform that magnanimous act in Houston.

Kyrie Irving performed that act of kindness before the Celtics' game against the Houston Rockets, and TMZ filmed the entire interaction.

Still, the act of kindness wasn't enough for the basketball gods to look down favorably upon Boston's finest, because they lost 113-127 against the Houston Rockets.

James Harden really did his thing for Houston on Thursday, helping the team secure the victory with 45 points. Thursday's game marked the sixth consecutive game that the point guard earned more than 35 points.

But while Irving's stats don't quite measure up to Harden's, he's still seen as an important player, and for good reason.

In an interview with the Boston Globe, the five-time NBA all-star point guard says that his recent improvements are a function of practice and maturity.

“There’s a lot of sacrifice in that aspect that doesn’t go seen and just making sure that I put a good product out there on the floor with my teammates. That’s really what it comes down to, just being able to do the little things, boxing out. That comes from the things you do off the court to make sure your core is strong, make sure that your legs are there, and just that you can commit to doing that every single game and not just one game,” Irving explained.

Irving and the Boston Celtics are set to play the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night.
