The Boston Celtics are far from meeting their expectations of becoming the top team in the East this season. To make matters worse, a mood swing rollercoaster has the Celtics locker room spiraling into a funk after their slow start.
Jay King of The Athletic wrote about Boston's surprisingly disappointing early performance, including players' comments on how it has affected both the team's overall and individual morale.
“The mood swings are really high,” Marcus Morris said after Tuesday’s practice. “And I think that’s the difference between having a veteran team and having a young team. Veterans, game over, you get rid of it, you throw it in the trash, you get ready for the next game.”
The Celtics' young potential star crop of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier received heaps of praises for their brilliance during the team's deep playoff run last season. However, they are still young and inexperienced. As what Morris pointed out, the frustrating losses eventually crept up to their minds.
Veteran All-Star Al Horford also chimed in on the team's failure to move on from the losses.
“I really can’t put my finger on (why disappointment has lingered),” Al Horford said. “But I do feel like there’s a lot of expectations and things from everyone and I think maybe when we don’t fulfill those, guys tend to get down. And that’s an area that we have to grow as a group.”
The Celtics are sporting a 9-8 record this season and will look to improve on it when they face the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
